European poker football’s governing body has announced that no UEFA competition matches will be played in Israel until further notice poker
Israel’s national teams and club sides Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv, who are both competing in Europe, must find alternative venues outside the country to fulfil their UEFA fixtures poker
The announcement comes amid the escalating Israel-Palestine conflict, which was sparked earlier this month by an attack on Israeli citizens by Hamas militants poker
A UEFA statement read: “After a thorough evaluation of the current safety and security situation in the whole territory of Israel, the UEFA Executive Committee decided that no UEFA competition matches shall be played in Israel until further notice poker
“The Israel poker Football Association and its clubs Maccabi Haifa FC and Maccabi Tel-Aviv have been requested to propose alternative venues/stadiums (which must comply with all applicable UEFA regulations) outside the territory of Israel for their home matches to be used for as long as this decision remains in force poker
”Israel’s national team were due to stage Euro 2024 qualifiers against Switzerland and Romania – the two teams above them in Group I – in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem respectively next month, while Maccabi Haifa are playing in the Europa League and Maccabi Tel Aviv are in the Europa Conference League poker

Earlier on Thursday, the poker Football Association said it will review whether to continue lighting the Wembley arch as an act of tribute following criticism over its response to the Israel-Palestine conflict poker

“We also spoke with our Australian colleagues and other stakeholders in the game to understand the views of players, clubs, and also of the leagues poker
“It’s worth noting that the Australians had upcoming games against both Palestine and Lebanon, so their desire for neutrality was obviously incredibly strong poker

World Rugby has approved plans to set up a new international league competition as part of part of a radical shake-up of the global calendar poker
The bi-annual tournament is to be launched in 2026 and will be made up of two divisions of 12 teams, with promotion and relegation commencing from 2030 poker
Matches will be staged in the July and November international windows poker
In addition to a competition that has been tentatively named the ‘Nations Cup’, World Rugby’s council has given the go-ahead to the expansion of the World Cup to 24 teams in time for Australia 2027 poker
The revised format will consist of six pools of four teams and will see the creation of a round of 16 to take place before the quarter-finals poker
The top two teams from each group will automatically qualify, as well as the best four third-placed teams poker
Even though the number of sides is to be increased, the adjustment means the World Cup can be reduced from seven to six weeks from October 1 to November 13, 2027, while providing the same number of minimum rest days poker
The draw for the next competition will take place in January 2026 in the hope of avoiding the lopsided groups seen in France over the last two months poker
As part of the changes, the international window for November has been lifted from three to four weekends and the Six Nations will lose one of its fallow weeks poker
It has yet to be decided which break week of the Six Nations will be removed but from 2026 the competition will reduced from seven to six weeks to free up an international weekend for the Nations Cup in November poker
The top division of the Nations Cup will be run by Six Nations and SANZAR unions while the second division will be overseen by World Rugby poker
The competition will culminate in a final poker between teams from the northern and southern hemispheres poker
World Rugby state that the new competition structure, which enshrines British and Irish Lions tours in their existing format, will also provide an increased number of fixtures poker between the game’s heavyweights and emerging nations poker
